The appointment of the Special Rapporteur on the issue of human rights obligations relating to the enjoyment of a safe, clean, healthy and sustainable environment is to be made at the 38th session of the Human Rights Council (18 June - 6 July 2018).

A Panel discussion on the human rights of internally displaced persons in commemoration of the twentieth anniversary of the Guiding Principles on Internal Displacement will take place on 26 June, at 4pm. Part of the discussion will concern the internal displacement as a result of climate change. The full programme is avaiable online.

Annual thematic panel discussion on technical cooperation in the promotion and protection of human rights will also take place. Theme: Human rights and the Sustainable Development Goals: enhancing human rights technical cooperation and capacity-building to contribute to the effective and inclusive implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Various climate change related events will be taking place during the council and a resolution on human rights and climate change should be adopted. The event Protecting the Human Rights of People on the Move due to Climate Change, organized by the Geneva Climate Change Consultation Group (GeCCco) will take place on 19 June at 3pm.
