A Chemicals and Waste briefing focusing on the preparations for the 2019 meetings of the conferences of the Parties to the Basel, Rotterdam and Stockholm conventions, scheduled to take place in Geneva from 29 April to 10 May 2019, was organized at the International Environment House on Tuesday 16 April 2019.

The briefing also provided an update on the activities of the Minamata Convention on Mercury Convention intersessional work.

The new director of the UN Environment Europe Office, Bruno POZZI,was introduced to the International Community in Geneva.

Summary

As mentioned by Switzerland, on 22 October 2018 the Secretariat received a proposal by Canada, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ghana, Jordan, Mali, Nigeria, Peru, Switzerland, Thailand, the United Republic of Tanzania and Zambia for a new Annex VII to the Convention entitled “Procedures and mechanisms on compliance with the Rotterdam Convention”. (UNEP/FAO/RC/COP.9/14/Add.1)
